Punjab Education Foundation (PEF): CM Punjab in his term increased PEF’s budget by 25 times: PEF Chairman Qamar Ul Islam Raja Monitoring mechanism is aimed to ameliorate not to humiliate school partners: MD PEF Tariq Mahmood PEF is spending only 4% of its budget on management, CM Punjab Mian Shahbaz Shareef increased the PEF budget by 25 times in his tenure, this was said by PEF chairman Qamar Ul Islam Raja while addressing at the last day of three-day district coordination meetings. Punjab government handed over public schools to PEF, acknowledging the good work with transparency and merit. These public schools were assigned to PEF’s existing partners with good performance. He further added that as schools under PEF’s “Public School Support Program” exhibited good performance so Punjab government is interested in expanding the existing school infrastructure (construction of new class rooms). PEF chairman also reiterated the commitment to provide free education across 1546 Union councils of Punjab. Chairman Qmar Ul Islam Raj also responded to the questions asked by the school owners, he said that with the financial help of UNICEF we will expand “early childhood program” in other districts. He further said that a school partner in his lifetime can transfer his partnership with the consensus of his heirs. PEF MD, Tariq Mahmood addressing the meeting said that aim and objective of monitoring partner school is to ameliorate and not to humiliate any partner, PEF monitor’s job is to identify and report the facts. He further said that PEF will very soon be issuing Identity Cards so that they can visit PEF schools. Chairman & MD PEF applauded and appreciated the school owners for attending these meetings and playing their role in discussion to improve free education programs. In this meeting as much as 1300 school partners from Muzaffargarh and Bahawalpur participated. Deputy Managing Director (Support Service) Mr. Imran Yaqub, Director M&E Mr. Athar Rauf and other PEF officials also attended the meeting.
