LAHORE, May 26:

The Punjab Government will enhance the share of education in the next Budget to make education sector reforms a success. Schools sector will be especially targeted so that students could get quality education.

This was stated by Chairman Punjab Education Foundation Raja Mohammad Anwar while addressing the annual cooking and sports gala at Government College for Women, Saman Abad on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering, Raja Anwar said that higher education plays very important role in developing the ‘leadership of tomorrow’ and added that educated women are the best asset of the country as they can help develop the nation. He further said that this millennium has catapult society into a greater than ever need for higher education. A variety of forces such as advances in technology, rapidly expanding competition and social and economic needs have transformed higher education into a matter of necessity, he observed.

“As we continue to grow, it’s necessary that teachers, students and higher education experts develop new tools and techniques to meet the emerging standards of higher education.”

Raja Anwar observed that investment in higher education leads to accumulation of human capital which is a key to sustained economic growth and increasing incomes. Education also contributes in poverty reduction by increasing the productivity of labour, he said.

Earlier, besides holding of cooking competition among College students, volley ball competition was also held between teams of ten local girls’ colleges.

The function was also addressed by College Principal. Later, Raja Anwar gave away the prizes to winning students.
